Elba Cruz Matos, 76, of Bristol, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on January 1, 2021. Born on July 5, 1944, in Dorado, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Armando and Angelina Rios Cruz. Elba worked for General Electric as an Assembler for 30 years. She retired from GE in 2001 to enjoy everything about being “Mema” to her six grandchildren. She had a passion for family, friends, cooking, bingo, trips to the casino, and her beloved Boston Red Sox. Elba is survived by two sons William Matos and his wife Heidi. Pedro J. Matos Jr. and his significant other Valerie Malenfant, all of Bristol, CT; a daughter Ivonne Hamm and her husband Mike also of Bristol; six grandchildren or “sweeties” as she often called them - Nathan, Angie, Morgan, Justin, Kadyn and Miranda, her aunt Juana Miranda of Mattapan, MA, a cousin Efraim (Frankie) Ramirez of Bristol who she always introduced as a brother along with several other nieces and nephews. Elba was predeceased by two brothers Armando and Gorgonio Cruz. A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 7 at 1:00 pm at DuPont Funeral Home, 25 Bellevue Ave., Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Thursday morning from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. For those attending the services, face-coverings and social distancing will be required. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Elba’s name to Bristol Hospital Homecare and Hospice, 32 Valley St., Level D, Bristol, CT 06010.
