Anthony "Tony" Bookas
Anthony G. Bookas, 76, husband of Olga Tzavaras Bookas of Bristol, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2018 surrounded by his loving family at UConn Hospital. He served in the Greek Airforce and then came from Athens Greece in 1966 to Bristol, CT. He was an Electrician/Technician and retired from Allied Printing in 2011. Tony was mechanically inclined and loved to repair everything that was not possible. He adored his bride Olga of 47 years and his two children George and Angela. He loved St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox church and helped build it. He was the Godfather for the ground breaking. He started the Zorba Greek Festival and was the Chairman for 14 years. He was a fan of NY Yankees and loved to watch the Huskies Women Basketball. Besides his wife, Tony is survived by his son and daughter-in-law George and Renee Bookas of Bristol, CT; his daughter and son-in-law Angela Bookas-Brown and her husband Jeffrey of Southington, CT; a brother James G. Bookas and his wife Joanne J. of Port Richey, FL; three nieces and nephews Maria Bookas-Alexopoulos and her husband Dimi of Bellmore, L.I., New York, George Papathanasiou and Hristos Papathanasiou, both of Athens, Greece, and many cousins. Tony was predeceased by his brothers Vasilios and Hristos Bookas and his sister Aggeliki Papathanasiou. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, April 12, at 10:30 am at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 31 Brightwood Rd., Bristol, CT 06010. Burial will follow in Peacedale Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday evening, April, 11, from 6-8pm at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Demetrios Church using the address above.
